about

Bastards of the backwoods fire, children of apocalyptic hysteria…the moonshine has been pilfered again by those pagan wood goblins Old Time Relijun. This time, the celebration turned toward the continent of Europe, where the band stomped out their primitive cacophony with an extensive hayride of a tour in March 2000. To commemorate the event, La Sirena de Pecera is offered, an extra special hissing bag of snakes inspired by their tirade across the continent.
La Sirena de Pecera features three songs culled from 1999’s Uterus And Fire (KLP97) reworked and interpreted into Spanish, Italian and Portuguese! “Casino” gets the Spanish take, “Carcerato” (English=”Jail”) is transformed into Italian, and “Adaga” (English=”Dagger”) gets a Portuguese makeover. These new versions take on an entirely different character, and those in Spain, Portugal and Italy can enjoy OTR’s hedonism in their respective mother tongues! Five brand new songs of scorch-and-burn hillbilly rage emerge from the swamp to round out this special tour EP. Further spastic shudders over sex and apocalyptic paranoia abound; in-the-red drum pounding, frenetic upright bass pulses, skeletal guitar scrapings and twisted throat singing emulate confusing images of Nick Cave and Doo Rag fighting over the last bit of alligator meat on the barbecue. Rounded out by a minimalist bass clarinet-fueled free jazz stumble, and you have one pleasing mini album.
As honest as it gets, Old Time Relijun bare their deepest darkest emotions, warts and all. Imbibe in their glorious catharsis, and be healed!
